SPORTS AND LEISURE TIME IN THE UAE IN THE PAST AND PRESENT

Sports and leisure time are two of the important aspects in great relation to human life , and they are considered as a sign of the level of development of the country and the life style of the people there. The traditional sports in particular are an important part of the heritage and identity of the country , and the UAE is a country rich in heritage and it has a unique identity. In the past the sports in the UAE were practiced in certain ways, and the country was famous for limited sports, but was very capable in practicing them, and for this reason all of these sports have been enjoying a good position in the field of sports in the country till now. Some of the traditional sports , which are still alive in the country , but experienced some changes , are horse racing and camel racing , so I chose to compare these sports in the country in the past and present . I have good information about these sports today because I am here, and I can get the required information about the situation in the past from different previous studies. Another source for getting the information that I need is one of the old people in the country , as these people represent a precious book of memories. We have an old neighbor. When I visited him and started asking him about how they used to spend their leisure time in the past and about the popular sports at his time , he changed his seat to sit on a mat on the ground , as if trying to return back to those old days . He started by saying that he was always fond of camel racing and horse racing , and that even now he has a horse that participates in races and win rewards . He told me that they were very keen on training their horse in the best way , and those horses were capable to pass through the dusty tracks creating foams of dust around them and motivated by the applauding of the audience. He continued saying that in the past the modern entertaining facilities of today were not there, so the traditional sports enjoyed a good presence. About camel racing, he told me that they used to make the little children ride the camels and to guide them in the race. Those children were very skilled ; to keep balance on the camel back while running in a race is not an easy task. In the end, he said that these sports are still practiced in the country ; maybe this is done in well-equipped racing clubs, and modern tracks with good designs , and there modern devices have replaced the little children on the backs of camels, but the core of the sports is the same, and they are still an important feature of our identity and heritage.

Part 1:

The project was done in a group. Our group consisted of 5 members. It was better to do it as a group rather than individually, because the work for each one is less, and every one can help each other.

The group chose to do a case study in Abu Dhabi country club. We chose it because it has many different activities inside and it includes both sports and leisure.

Someone from the group suggested the place so we researched it and all decided to choose it.

Part 2:

When we visited the Abu Dhabi country club we made an interview with the marketing director of the club and a coach in the clubs gym.

The director talked to us about the club in general and took us on a tour around the club and showed us the different facilities inside the club.

Also, he said to us about how many people come to the club and the number of activities that include families and individuals and the many classes they have inside the club.

The coach told us about his job and how he helped people losing weight and build muscle with his help and he trained the members.

Part 3:

Group work skills and photography skills and aditing skills are some of the skills required to do this project. First every person in the group has to know what his job is and how to help the group. Photographing skill is important to make a video and also take pictures of the place.

The quality of photography makes the video become better and the project becomes better. Also, editing skills are important to make the video look  better. The club won’t make any charges because we did everything with their agreement with them and made the club look good in the video. Something we could have added in the video is maybe the group members doing some of the activities to show how the real thing is.

Video Project

The sweetness, Walter Payton, he was play in Jackson State University and got attention as halfback. When he plays in the collage his name was black college player in 1973 to 1974. He mad approximately 9 pro bowl appearances and won NFL MVP award two times. Payton was married and had two children, Jarrett and Brittney. His charitable organization called Walter and Connie Payton. He died in November 1 1999 by cancer.
